Configure your Google+ Profile

Google Author Tag FlowchartThis is the first page of a interactive guide to adding Google Author Tags to your blog. So you are in the right place. There is a flowchart that goes along with this process that you might find useful to use in conjunction with this guide or on its own.

On this page you will find five questions that focus on getting your Google+ profile ready to associate with your blog. The goal is to answer yes to each question  Don’t worry, if you answer no. There is instructions on how to get this changed after each question.

Do you have a Google+ personal account?

If no…

Go to: https://plus.google.com/ and signup. If you have an existing Gmail account you can use that. If not, create one.

Does your Google+ profile name match your byline on the blog posts you want to associate?

If no…

Change your byline on whatever site you contribute to, to match your Google+ name.

OR

Change your name in Google to match your byline.

1. Go to: https://plus.google.com/
2. Click on Profile.
3. Click on Edit Profile
4. Click on your name.
5. Click on Save
6. Click on Done Editing

Do you have a good, recognizable headshot as your Google+ profile photo?

If no…

1. Go to: https://plus.google.com/
2. Click on Profile.
3. Click on your picture /avatar
4. Upload a clearly visible headshot.

Is your Google+ profile visible in search?

If no or not sure…

Your profile should be visible in search by default.

1. Go to: https://plus.google.com/
2. Click on Profile.
3. Click on Edit Profile
4. Click on Profile Discovery & make sure the box is checked.
5. If not, check it and click done editing.

Have you added to your Google+ page that you are a contributor to the blog you want to be associated with?

If no…

1. Go to: https://plus.google.com/
2. Click on Profile.
3. Click on Edit Profile
4. Click on Contributor to
5. Add any site you contribute to
6. Make them public
7. Click on Save
8. Click on Done Editing
